Lets call this post Fashion Vent

we are going to discuss some of the mishaps that have been seen thus far at the 'Cuse and just general venting

Okay so it's about 80 degrees in Syracuse right now, which is all fine and dandy except for the fact that it was ummmmm 35 degrees last week!!! Now the problem that I have really isn't with the weather but with some peoples fashion choices. Now if you had a down coat and some uggs (sheepskin boots for those not in the know) last week why did I see you today with a tube top, a mini, and some flip flops on. That's just the tip of the iceberg lol...

I know that I am not the smallest chica on the planet but one thing I know is that my clothes fit. As women we need to pick what is appropiate for our body types and should realize just because it's in our size does not mean it is meant for your body type. I'm seeing too many guts and rolls in ill fitted shirts and lowrise jeans, and that's just a NO NO. Now I can shop in some regular stores like banana republic and find things that fit wonderfully but then I can go in another store like Betsey Johnson and try on the same size and it fits horribly, so the tip is don't let the size of the clothes determine who you are, if you normally wear a 10 but the 12 fits better, buy the 12 PLEASE. With all this said I hope not to see so many buttons on shirts that are stretching and screaming for help, and blazers you can't button, and jackets you can't zip, and clothes revealing the bakery (buns rolls etc)...also I have to speak on shoes. If you are struggling to walk in the shoes in the store, you are going to have a tough time when you hit pavement, especially trying to walk across a big ass campus or even across the room to throw your trash away, that's why there are fashionable options for everyone instead of the four inch stiletto's be real with your self and get two or one. Also I have to say that its getting cold outside which means it's time to retire the sandals. Yes I know you want to be flyy and your sandals match your outfit, but when you are going to a 8:30 class and it's nippy outside and you have on stilleto sandals and a leather jacket and your big toe is getting ashier by the second because its cold that means it's time to retire them until a) a formal event where you go from car to inside b) some vacation to a warm climate or c) until next spring/summer.

Next thing... I know class is a place where you are supposed to feel comfie and relaxed but daggit sweatpants and pajama bottoms won't cut it everyday and the latter shouldn't cut it at all. I mean I know it's all about comfort and all that good stuff but look like you made a little effort. A head scarf is made for in the house (with a few minor exceptions) and so are slippers. Lets at least throw on jeans, sneakers, and a hoodie or a t-shirt and as grad students we should really be on point and try a little harder. Because when you enter the workplace you cannot wear that nonsense.

Final thing... SYRACUSE just because I'm black does not mean my shytt is fake or I have to dress a particular way. If another person does a double takes, or asks is my bag real or a good replica, or makes assumptions I'm going to have to flip on you... If I, my mother, or anyone else wants to drop $500+ on a bag or some jewelery for me don't look at me twisted. To answer your questions... yes this is a real abbesses (if you'ld like you can see the receipt from the louis vuitton boutique); yes some black people can shop in Tiffany and no we aren't only limited to the Return to Tiffany collection; yes some black people do have disposable incomes and can spend how they want; yes I do have good credit and a savings account and investments and a financial advisor and I'm only 22 AND WHAT lol (had to throw that in to debunk the myth that black people have bad credit and don't save); and finally for some of my own people wearing or possessing designer clothes does not take away from my blackness, I can rock a red black and green tee, with my natural hair, in some designer jeans, strutting in some blahniks, with my lv bag in tow and still be just as black and just as powerful as the next woman.

With all that said I'm out.
