refreshed.. but sore

So I actually had a chance to get away and it was great! Wednesday after my class I drove up to Boston/Cambridge where my mom was for training for her job. It was a 4.5 hour ride but not bad at all considering that I felt like I was driving away from all the stress I had the past few weeks, and I knew when I came back it would all be gone (and I was right). So anyway, I went up Wednesday and my mom was staying at a really nice hotel on the Charles River in Cambridge. It was absolutely beautiful you could ride up to the roof and look one way and see Boston the other way you could see Harvard. So when I got there we went to Cambridgeside Galleria had dinner and did a little browsing and called it a night.

The next day while my mom was in class I decided to go explore the city. Let me tell you Boston is absolutely beautiful, but never tour it by foot :) That wasn't my original plan but I still had fun. I hopped a cab from my hotel to Faneuil Hall which is like this big marketplace full of restaurants and stands and shopping (which made me happy). When I hop out the cab this homeless guy asked if I had any change and I didn't (all I had was big bills) so I said no sorry and proceeded to walk away and he said "it's okay because you are such a beautiful Nubian princess I don't need your money" so I smiled and gave him a laugh and he falls on the ground and starts shaking talking about your smile knocked me off my feet... that was too funny and made my day lol. So I walked around that area explored, went in the shops (Coach has some really cute things out) and had fun then I walked to the aquarium, and then to Chinatown. That was really interesting as well. The area was small but so full of culture.

So then I started walking again and ended up in Downtown Crossing which was like a piece of heaven on earth for me. Shopping ahhh, Filenes, and Macy's and shoe stores, and street vendors it reminded me of a mini Times Square (let me tell you being in Syracuse you REALLY miss stuff like that). So I was walking down the street and this little old lady stopped me and said excuse me just thought I'd tell you you are beautiful. I was wondering if it was boost Christen's Confidence day but I said thank you and smiled and enjoyed my happiness. I went to the shoe store and spent some dough, then went and hit up the jewelry counter where I found the perfect earrings and bracelet, and since they weren't doing anything at L'ancome they did my lips and then I went over to MAC and they hooked up the eyes (so of course I spent at both counters). I had tea at the outdoor cafe and listened to these two men play some beautiful Mexican folk music.

After all of that I caught a cab to Harvard Square. On the ride from Downtown we passed through different neighborhoods and I saw how Boston is a mix of history and hipness, you can drive and see the freedom trail, and historic parks on one street and on the next see a hip shoe store and the Original Cheers (where everybody knows your name). So that was soo cool.

So Harvard Square is beautiful, that university is gorgeous and the buildings are just breath taking its so rich in history and what I love is that I saw diversity. I just walked through the neighborhood and went in little shops, spent some time in the Harvard Bookstore, then went to the Garage (which is like their food court/mini mall) and kind of explored the neighborhood some more. By this point my legs were starting to ache a little (if you look at a map of Boston like I did when I returned to the hotel I know I walked at least 5 miles in some cute shoes lol) so I caught a cab back to the hotel where I went to the room and chilled and then had lunch. While eating my mom came down and joined me and we talked for a little bit and went back to the room and chilled some more.

So my mom and I got some wires crossed in communication and we had planned to go to Copley Square/Place for the evening can you say Tiffany (could have gotten more Elsa Perretti), LV, and lots of other stores, but we ended up back downtown which was cool. My mom and I caught the T (the dirty but cheap metro/subway system) and my mom and I found some more shopping finds then what I did earlier in the day. After that we went back to Faneuil Hall where we had dinner at Cheers (the replica of the original Cheers which is in Beacon Hill on the other side of town). Mind you when we went downtown I was still walking around trying to be cool and my legs were still sore but I stuck it out. So anyway while eating in Cheers I caught a double charlie horse (one in both legs at the same time) which is never good and even alcohol wasn't taking the pain away, so we wrapped up the evening and caught a cab back to the hotel. Where I limped to the room and fell asleep in pain.

This morning I pretty much woke up in pain, took a shower in pain, had lunch with my mom sore with a little pain, and drove 4.5 hours back to school trying not to bend my legs so I wouldn't be in pain. But let me tell you the mini-vacation was well worth the leg pain because I got away from here, had some fun, saw my mommy, did I mention got away from here, and I had a chance to have no worries for a few days, and guess what? I left all those worries somewhere on the Mass Turnpike when I was driving to Cambridge on Wednesdays. I can't allow drama, and issues to effect me or my life any more, and the only pain that is acceptable right now is the pain in my legs which will hopefully be gone before Monday comes.

That trip was sooooo needed. I gotta send my mom a thank you note for this one. She doesn't know how bad I needed that refresher.
