women

So a lot of people have this theory that women just can't get along. Well I don't find that to be true I think the statement should be, immature girls can't get along. Because to me a woman should acclimate to any surroundings and be able to shine through it all.

The reason this topic came to mind is because a group of us in my grad program kind of "found" each other the first day of orientation this summer. We saw that it's only about 12 of us so we needed to come together and be a support system for one another. We've gone to events with each other and when the group I'm on the executive board of I invited them and they all came out and supported and we had fun and that was really cool. Last night we had a movie night where we were supposed to go over to my friends house and watch a movie and eat junk food. Well all of us brought different stuff, me veggie lasagna, others brought curry chicken and rice and peas and plantain and macaroni and homemade quesadillas and dip and the list goes on. We had a straight up grub fest :-) And then one movie turned into watching three and we just had a lot of fun hanging out and socializing outside of the academic setting.

Another group of wonderful women I have met have been through an egroup I'm in. I joined that group as a part of a class and I have been in it for 2 years. This is a group where ladies come online and we talk about our issues and life and silly things and its open and honest because one we are behind a computer and secondly because most of us have been in the group so long we really do feel like a social circle. We've had get togethers offline and celebrated marriages and the birth of babies and graduation and other great things in life. The best thing is we are all women and even when we disagree we still agree that there is love between us.

Some of my linesisters also help prove that VERY different women from different backgrounds and lives can come together and be friends. When we started our journey most of us were strangers and who we thought we'd be tight with are the ones that we aren't all that tight with and the ones that were kind of opposite are the ones that have been there for me in some hard times and we've shared some of our best moments in life together.

These are just examples that real WOMEN do not perpetuate these stereotypes that we are all catty and we don't get along and so forth. A real woman can deal with other REAL women. If you seem to be having issues maybe you aren't dealing with someone that possesses the attributes of a true woman. Before I used to say I could never be tight with a bunch of girls and that is true, girls aren't who I need to be hanging with anyway, but a group of women we can develop a bond that can last a lifetime.
