will you be remembered

Do you ever think about your actions and if the things you do will leave a lasting impression on people and their lives?

I know in high school I was a bit "uppity" at times :) but I still tried to make sure that I wasn't being arrogant or acting like I was better then anyone else because it was instilled in me from the start that I wasn't. I was also told that I was afforded a lot of opportunities because of my parents hard work and them doing for others and how I should do the same.

What's the point of this? Well here it is. What you do today will create an impact on how others and the world see you tomorrow.

My dad used to be a wild dude... socialite, ladies man and so forth and then he settled down when he met the diva, my mommy :) People still remembered him for his wild ways and the things that he did back in the day so that image stuck with him for a while. Fast-forward many years after me and illnesses and life and he was a different man. About the community, creating change, making God the total center of his life, and dedicating hi life and time to the church. At one point when he was still a little wild my parents went to a funeral and saw how there were people everywhere and my dad asked I wonder if enough people will think of me to fill half this room when I die.

Well in 1995 he did die and because of the lasting impression and the change he made on peoples lives not only did he fill a sanctuary but there were people in the balcony of the church as well and when we were riding in the limo and I looked back and saw a 2 mile processional line then I knew he was definitely remembered and implanted in the hearts and minds of all of those that were there.

I know yall are like where did this story come from? Well yesterday my beautiful dazzling niece Cierra was in a pageant at the Masonic Temple in DC, my dads old stomping grounds. I was in the elevator and I was teasing my niece and I said her whole name and she teased me and said my whole name, and a man in the elevator said what's your last name again. So I repeated. Then he asked if I knew someone named James, I smiled and said yes that's my dad. Then all of a sudden all these people were talking to me and making their comments (since most hadn't seen me since I was in my moms stomach or a few months old) about how I had grown up (duh lol). But the point is that a lasting impression had been made there. My dad hadn't been active there since I was probably 4 or 5 but these people still remembered him and what he was about.

So my point of all of this longwinded convo is that everything you do is being watched and scrutinized. Make sure that in everything you do that it is something that will effect change and create positive and lasting impressions in peoples minds.

I know there are people that don't like me and that's great and that's their problem. But I know that most people that know me know me for the good that I have done and in the future they will know me for the changes that I have made.

So in everything you do, just think how will I be remembered.
