if you...
...owned a restaurant, what kind of food would you serve?
I'd have a fusion restaurant and try to incorporate all the things I like to cook and eat in one place. I'd want it to be kind of casual and reminiscant of french sidewalk cafe's. A place where you can come and get Soul/Carribbean/Latino/Asian inspiration all in one place. Like soul sushi thats wrapped in a collard green instead of Nori lol. Or cook a fish dish and have falafels instead of hush puppies and jerk kabobs cooked in a tandoori oven served with cuban black beans. The best part would be dessert because you could have like a sweet potatoe flan served with indian kulfi. Basically a mixture of different cultures and food in one place.
...owned a small store, what kind of merchandise would you sell? atmosphere?
clothes and jewelry from up and coming black designers. natural hair and skin products like carols daughter, ebene natural, black earth products, etc. stationary and trinkets. my favorite books and music, a few art pieces, perfumes, incense and natural beauty and health products.
I'd want my store to be a place thats like a little oasis where people feel like they are at home. I'd have a little sitting area with tea and water and so forth and the nag champa burning and some good music playing that would help them feel so comfortable they want to spend.
...wrote a book, what genre would it be?
it would be nonfiction. similar in a lot of ways to my blog but more of a self help/actualization book full of my musings.
...ran a school, what would you teach?
I'd teach a creative class and a self help class. The creative class would work on finding the artist in you. It would be a semeste that touched on different art forms writing music painting sculpture singing dance etc. That first semester everyone would try all the artforms the second semester whatever artform you werethe best at you'ld spend the first half of the semester honing and the second half you'ld work on tackling the artform you struggled with the most. So in one year you would have experienced art in many ways and learn how to incorporate it in your life.
The self help class would be one that focused on building and maintaining esteem in girls. So many girls don't know their self worth and how wonderful they are so this class would focus on building on the positive and teaching them how to love and appreciate self.
...recorded an album, what kind of music would be on it?
it would be an ecclectic album with a spoken word, jazz, soul vibe to it. it would talk about life and real things that people can relate to. not about bling and hoes and men but life and happiness and success and failure and love and heartache. the type of music would reflect the message of the song. an angry song is going to have more of a saul williams electric soul vibe while a happy loving life is going have that minnie ripperton loving you lalalalala feel.
