get your own man

I was reading Cymple’s blog about cheating and then read an article today in Newsweek about how infidelity is rising amongst women and thought that I should speak on it. Still reading my Sassy, Single and Satisfied book I ran across a chapter entitled “Get Your Own Man.” The first thing that I thought was why did she even put this in here, but then I thought about it and the different situations that I have recently heard about young women dating other women’s boyfriends and even other women’s husbands and I guess that what she wrote was needed.

My question is what are you really getting out of dating someone that belongs to someone else? Maybe because I am selfish I wouldn’t understand. In a relationship I need my partners attention and I need him to be there for me when I need him, not when he can break free from his woman for a second. Why should I sacrifice going out during the day or only being able to go to certain spots at certain times because “my man” is hiding out from his woman. Like the book says each woman should have her own husband not someone else’s.

Then as a woman you need to ask yourself why am I coveting someone else’s husband/boyfriend, calling and hanging up and then praying for the other woman’s demise so that you can be with HER man, who isn’t worth being with in the beginning. Making excuses for him and yourself saying that he is not happy and so forth and he is staying because he has to. Ummm No. He is stringing you the puppet along and you being boo boo the fool are falling for the b.s.

Think about it what man is really going to want you when he sees that your character is flawed. Don’t get me wrong he is flawed as well, but why does he want you when he probably has a dedicated relationship at home and then you the scallywag on the side that’s giving up the free stuff. This is not going to lead to his divorce and your marriage. If anything you will be strung along like a little puppy with no promise of a reward.

I haven’t been through this exact experience but I know people that have been both the other woman (willingly) and the one that is being cheated on. In the end it’s not worth it. So as Michelle McKinney Hammond says “get your own man!”
