I love NY
I miss New York...I haven't had a really good extended trip to the city since I was up there in June for my friend Kia's party.
I miss going to Brooklyn to get my hair done at Time Salon and then hanging out in Ft. Greene.
I miss catching the metro north with my friends from Westchester to go shopping in the Village and roaming the streets all day.
I miss hanging out at South Street Seaport and dinners at Cabana (ohh the mojito's and paella).
I miss the "girls night out" that me and my sorority sisters would have. We'd get on the train and go to BBQ's and get those Texas sized drinks with the extra shot or go to the Shark Bar.
I miss Sundays after church with my linesisters going to brunch at Amy Ruth's or Spoonbread and then walking to my linesisters house and talking and sleeping and have fun all evening.
I miss and loved my learning Saturdays where I'd go to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and spend hours upon hours in there just reading and absorbing things related to my people.
I miss sneaking off to my great aunts house in Brooklyn to say hello. I'd call her on a Thursday and be like I'm getting my hair done tomorrow I'm just going to stop by and say hi on my way back to school and she'd say okay and when I get there she would have a chicken and a rack of lamb, and 3 vegetables and homemade rolls and a poundcake just in case I was hungry.
I miss "sisterhood nights" me and my linesisters would rent movies drink alcohol and play all these "bonding" games
I miss having the craziest "get togethers" in our dorm. It's a surprise we didn't get kicked out of Hillside and Dow.
I miss Kia's mommy and TiTi treating us to brunch at Night of the Cooker's in Brooklyn
I miss Macy's Herald Square and Henri Bendel... hell I miss NY shopping
I also miss NYC museums. As much as I love the Smithsonian, It's something about the Met and MoMA and even little places like the Studio Museum in Harlem
I miss the city at Christmas. I swear between Rockefellar Center and the Department Store windows it's amaaazing.
I miss all the damn restaurants and not worrying about the time because there was always something to do.
I miss spa days at cynergy and home spa.
Hell I even miss the MAC store in Harlem. What other MAC store has Black Greek Week and gives discounts to people in sororities as long as they show their membership card or have on para
As soon as I finish making these major moves in my life I am going to plan myself some sort of getaway weekend that is well deserved. I'm going to either go to my favorite hotel (The W) or stay at my favorite bed and breakfast, Akwaaba and have me a getaway to that other city that holds my heart.
