It's convenient

Ever been in a relationship because it's been convenient? Like you want something from a person but the only way to get it would to be obliged to them. A earlier conversation sparked a conversation with a friend and myself on how people do things because it is convenient.

Like in high school I was dating this guy and he was really trying to pressure me to have sex. At that point in my life I thought sex was nasty and wasn't thinking about it and wasn't considering it, especially with someone who didn't love me. But I made the mistake of saying that. So the next day he calls me and we talk a few hours and at the end of the convo he is like you know I think I've fallen in love with you. Negro please. At least wait a week so I would have forgotten that I had told you the day before that I wouldn't do anything with someone I didn't love. Don't say it because it's convenient and what you think is the easy route to ass.

Another situation happened with my friend when we were in undergrad. Me and my friends have shoe fetishes. We love shoes, we buy a lot of them and they bring us happiness. So one day we went shopping in the village in NY and we went in this fly shoe store. There was a below average looking guy in there and he was flirting with my friend he worked in the store and thought she was cute and he gave her a 20 percent discount in exchange for her number. So yall know know what happened. She started dating him for a minute (nothing sexual on her part happened) and that 20 percent discount went to 35 and we were in there buying shoes hard. I know we were bad and she was bad too cause she had a man, but her man knew too because she was getting timbs for him discounted lol. I know it's terrible but she did it for the team lol. So she talked to this guy like 4 months until he quit the job at the shoe store to work at Staples. Now if we needed office supplies she would have stayed but that was yet another relationship of convienience.

I can even think about times when I have done it. Hell I dated an athlete a while back that I was so not interested in just for free tickets to football games. I was out on the town in Philly with a friend and met him in some little chill spot. I wasn't all that interested in him but he kept talking and I continued to converse with him. He asked for my number and I pretty much ignored him and kept talking. Then somehow we got on football and I was talking about how I enjoyed football and so forth and I wanted to catch a few games but since I was on a students budget I couldn't. So he was like oh really I play for XYZ... so I played it off like I didn't hear him and kept talking and before I left I got his number. Now if he was smart he would have realized that 10 min earlier I didn't reply to him when he asked for my number but after he mentioned tickets I was game lol. When I since he was a bench warmer lol I had to look him up when I got home but he was telling the truth and I called him. We talked on the phone a few times, we hung a few times I caught a few games with him and that was the extent of us. It was all about convienience.

Now all the situations that I just mentioned were when I was younger and my friends were younger. We created situations that would be good for us in order for us to get what we wanted. I thought this was stuff that we left behind but it seems like it still goes on... guys offering relationships in hopes of sex, girls talking to lil Jon-esque men because they think they'll get a ring out of it and some cash, people looking for easy solutions to big issues and a whole array of other situations. I think as we mature we need to realize that things that are convenient aren't always good.
