It's official...
I miss school. I'm a nerd.
This year was the first year since I was three years old that I have not gone to school in the fall. I started with First Adventure Early Learning Center where I graduated top of my kindergarten class (I've always been a genius lol) and have paused (not stopped) at Syracuse University with a Master of Science in Public Relations. In my free time lately I've been thinking about what is going to be the next step.
One side of me wants to step into the world of academia and eventually teach, which is why I am looking to get my PhD in Intercultural Communication and Rhetorical Studies and the other side of me still wants to go to law school so I can practice intellectual property law (copyright, patent, trademark and related state law applying to technology, the arts, literature).
I know I know... I'm a geek.
It's just that I love learning and somehow through out the years issues and topics dealing with communications and media have become a passion for me so I try to absorb as much as possible. I've always been that way though when I was younger one summer I read the entire set of world book encyclopedias A-Z. I had so much random information flowing through my head it was crazy people would say something like I want a turkey sandwich and I'd be like "did you know a turkey can run up to 20 miles per hour and only male turkey's gobble" and then I'd walk away lol. I was weird I know lol, the sad thing is a lot of those random facts are still in my head.
I think I realized my nerdiness is still there after I read Theodore Roosevelt's "A Square Deal," speech and Mary Church Terrell's "What It Means to be Colored in Capital of the United States" on an American Rhetoric site. Now the fact that I was reading speeches at 2:30 am isn't what made me nerdy but the fact that I actually dissected the speeches and looked at the rhetoric was what made me think wow I really am a geek lol.
I love being this way though. When I was little I used to pretend I wasn't smart and hide the fact that I was like this mensa kid who loved to go to my talented and gifted classes and got off reading Shakespeare and interpreting art and writing prose. Now I'm like a geeky adult who gets off writing essays and debating and going to galleries and reading classics...
So I guess it's official I'm a geek
