look what I missed out on...

Have you ever run into someone you haven't seen in a long time and thought wow glad that's not me.

Saturday my girl J I went to the mall before we went out of town. We ran into a girl that we went to high school with. Her and I weren't really that cool with each other but we were cordial back in the day and the guy who is now her children's father (I meant it to be plural) was trying to get with me from ninth grade until she got pregnant.

So she walks over to us and was like hi and we are looking at her like why did she speak we really weren't cool like that. But we still tryed to make small talk and we remembered she was el-preggo when we graduated so we were like how is the baby. She said which one. Hmm. So we were like the only baby we know of should be five now since you were pregnant when we graduated. So she whips out her wallet and there is another baby that looks two-ish. So we put on the awww aren't they precious especially considering who their father is and what you look like face and was trying to peep a ring but her hand was in her jacket. So we asked are you all still together, thinking she'd be like yes and show us a diamond, diamonique, cz, a promise ring or something.

Do you know she lifted up her shirt and showed us her damn belly sticking out, el-preggo again. So J was like okay where is the ring at, I know after three kids yall are married. The girl giggled, wait she's not a girl, the grown ass woman giggled and was like no we aren't but I promise everybody we will be before the next one comes. Not before this one comes but the next one. Okaay.

Then she proceeds to ask how life has been treating us and we tell her our accomplishments and what not and she looked like oh ok that's nice, so I'm thinking since our life got the oh ok she's about to say she did some amazing shyt like she is working on using ribonucleic acid in stem cell research in her kitchen/lab or discovering what type of cyborg Dick Cheney is. But she didn't say any of the above.

So here is the kicker she looks at me and is like Christen didn't you used to talk to my boo, I'm like no he liked me but the feelings weren't reciprocated he wasn't my type(I know I'm mean so what). She was like well he is a good man and making some cash we are living it up. So I'm like ok cool. She then proceeds to say that "we just moved out to forrest creek and he is the manager at Red Lobsters and is about to get transferred out to Annapolis so he's going be pulling in cake." Again I was like oh ok that's nice.

Did she expect me to be like oh my gosh I am so pissed that I missed out...your man is a baller managing a red lobster. Was I supposed to get open off of all the free cheddar bay biscuits and lobsterita's I could be getting if I would have been his girl. Was I supposed to have been like I am such a hater cause you have two kids and are pregnant with the third and if I ever had a craving during my pregnancies for some endless shrimp or a bucket of snowcrabs I know I could get them cause my baby is manager, with a capital M at Red Lobster and is moving up to the one in Annapolis where all the white folks go. Girl please.

I really want people to stop and think before they speak. If I am 23 and have been dating the same guy since junior year of high school, have two children one on the way, live in an apartment in the hood, shacking up, living off of him working at Red Lobster and me working retail and I have no ring on my finger and no promise of commitment... I'd be quiet as hell.

It makes no sense to be excited about living a mediocre life. Maybe it's because I tend to be humble when discussing my accomplishments so I don't see how people could be so excited to share their business when their business is nothing I want to covet.

I guess she was proud of her man and wanted to show me what I was missing. What I could have had... had I not have been so damn superficial and in those damn books all the time. Had I have not gone to NY and gotten those two damn degrees.

Just think of all the free biscuits I could have if I would have kept talking to him. Damn.
