home again...

I just got back from Charlotte and had a pretty good holiday. Riding back I realized that I really do love spending thanksgiving with my family. It's one (of many) times during the year when we know that we will see each other and just have fun and enjoy ourselves. There are so many things about my family (quirky or not) that I love about the thanksgiving holiday...

Rotating houses yearly... my mom and her siblings change the location of dinner every year (last year it was up here) that way we always have a change of scenery

Pre-dinner praise and worship lol... who needs church when you have my family. Right before dinner starts we all stand in a circle in the living room holding hands. By the time we finish going around the circle telling what we are thankful for and praying someone is liable to be crying and everyone is spiritually in sync.

Food... man there was so much food from turkey to ham and greens to creole okra and homemade stuffing to sweet potato souffle we stuffed our faces ALL day.

Wine Table... that's a new tradition that I absolutely love. There is a nice little table in the corner that is full of everything from zinfandel to beaujolais and sparkling juice for the kids to moet nectar imperial (which I looove). It sets the mood before during and after dinner lol.

Dinner time... yall I done finally growed up *sniffle*. After 23 years of eating at the "young peoples table" eating off chinette and regular utensils I finally got to sit with the grown folks. I'm sure I could have done it before, but this year I had a place setting and everything lol. I got to use the waterford crystal and the wedgwood china and the sterling flatware and my uncle even poured me some wine in my glass *sniffle*. I'm finally grown yall.

Dessert... So my aunt owns a bakery which means she can throw down in the baking department which means we had everything from sweet potato pies to poundcake to homemade german chocolate cake and then I had my friend get me a cheesecake from Juniors and to top it some kona coffee and rooibus tea were served. Man I love dessert time.

The day after... think thanksgiving dinner plus lasagna, ribs, chicken, football and libations. That's the day we all come together again after a day of shopping, playing golf, going to the movies, and whatever else we do. Where we gossip while we eat and then gossip some more when we are done. We also decide who will take the reigns next year for dinner.

Thanksgiving is definitely a time of the year that I love. We all come together and have fun and fellowship. Next year we decided we aren't going to eat at anyone's house but are going to rent either a cabin or a beach house for the holiday. I'm already looking forward to it.
