turn off the lights...

and light a candle. That's what I did yesterday. And no I wasn't being romantic with my sweetheart. I had no electricity. And let me tell you that isht sucks.

We (my mom and I) were gone all day Saturday shopping, stayed up late watching movies and chilling, saw the snow fall and went outside in it at midnight and then woke up the next day and flipped the switch... and then again, then tried the tv, the radio... nothing. So she went outside and I went back to sleep (I don't do outdoors) and I got up around 10. Still nothing.

She was outside with the neighbors talking and such and I went to the kitchen to make my Sunday morning cup of Earl Grey with cream and two lumps and totally forgot that the gas stove needed electricity to make the pilot light work. So I had to take it back to the country with my great aunt and light a match to get that stove working and because I didnt want to have to open the fridge to let out the cold I did end up making soup for breakfast. Let me tell you that tea and minestrone soup was pretty good even though my sights were set on making belgium waffles. So around 11:30 it was VERY cold in my house, the heat had been out since 5:30am and my sister had called us inviting us over a good three times. So we packed up a few items and went over to her house.

Chaotic isn't the word. She has three kids (who I love to death) but they are wild. All three wanted my attention. One was asking me to download music on his laptop the other wanted me to play him in pacman and my niece wanted me to play uno. After a while all us (except mom who had passed out on the couch in the basement) were upstairs playing uno. It was a lot of fun. We (me and sister) haven't done that in years, at least since my dad was alive and it was only fitting that yesterday was my dad's birthday. So a little snow and no electricity brought all his family together on his birthday. My sister cooked a spread and had like steak and a chicken and biscuits and rice and macaroni and corn and green beans the list goes on and on. Even though I couldn't touch the meats I was the side dish queen and we had a great time eating and having fun.

After being there a good 6 hours my neighbor called and said the electricity was on. So we packed up and headed home. Of course as we pulled into the cul de sa cwe see that no one has lights on. Electricity was out again. We were not about to drive back to DC and so we got our lanterns and got our clothes out for work today and laid it on down at 7pm.

I can say that I got some excellent rest last night... all 12 hours and was so happy that this morning I could cut on the tv to do my morning pilates and boil some water for tea and turn on my blender to make a smoothie. No more lighting candles.

At least until tomorrow
